The software and techniques used by New Zealand Forensics are recognised and recommended by the worlds leading Computer Forensic Training entity, IACIS (International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists).  Many of the Law Enforcement Agencies from around the world use the same software and techniques and have also received training from IACIS.

Mike Chappell

Forensic Analyst.CBC. CFCE. (Certified Forensic Computer Examiner. IACIS)

Mike Chappell is one of New Zealand’s leading Computer Forensic Analysts and is currently studying towards a BBS in Information Technology and Business Management.

After joining the New Zealand Police in 1977 and retiring in 1999, Mike continued his training in Computer Forensics and Data Recovery both herein New Zealand and in the United States of America.

In his later years with the New Zealand Police, as a Senior Detective, he investigated a number of Computer and Internet related crimes.  Prior to his involvement with the Christchurch Fraud Unit, Mike was an Analyst in the Criminal Intelligence Section in Christchurch. Before leaving the Police, Mike became involved in a private capacity, in the examination of Pirated and Counterfeit Software for a Private Investigation Company, contracted to a major software corporation. 

Following his retirement from the Police, Mike traveled to Orlando, Florida, where he received training in Computer Forensics with IACIS (The International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists). 

After successfully completing the Basic Training Course in 2000 and the Advanced Course the following year, Mike completed and passed external examinations with IACIS, where he obtained the qualification of Certified Forensic Computer Examiner.  This is an internationally recognized qualification and is only held by a few Forensic Practitioners here in New Zealand.

While traveling in the USA for training, Mike also attended the Techno Security Conferences held in South Carolina.  This conference is also an internationally recognized conference attended by over 500 delegates worldwide.  The conference is sponsored by major Information Technology,Security and Forensic Software companies from all over the world. 

After re-establishing his business in 2003, Mike has conducted numerous forensic examinations for private businesses, private individuals, Barristers and Solicitors and major corporations. He has also spoken to a number of business groups regarding employee related issues,involving computer misuse and fraud.

Mike currently keeps himself abreast with the current technology, through attending software training seminars andalso subscribing to numerous technology forums around the world.
